The Un-Glamorous Side of Making Money and Traveling The World!

If you open my Instagram right now you will see a lot of pictures like these.

But there is always a flip side to the coin. It isn’t all sunsets, hammocks, rainbows and fairies.

The reality of being a full-time travel blogger and making money traveling is not nearly as glamorous as social media accounts would have you believe, and I am guilty of that as well.

The coffee-fueled nights glued to the laptop screen with the writer’s block, the shitty 9-hour sweaty bus journey, the headaches of visas and the feeling of uncertainty of income each month never makes it to Instagram.

From responding to potential advertisers, reaching out to would-be advertisers, editing photos, editing videos, assembling promotional materials, pitching travel and tourism contacts, writing for other sites, Facebook group networking, tweaking site design, tracking financials, link building, doing keyword research, reading other travel blogs, and maintaining a presence on social media.

Would I have it any other way?

Not really, I love what I do , and wouldn’t give up this life for a million dollars. I have the freedom to live anywhere I like in the world, I get to explore different cultures and meet new & exciting people at the age when most people are unsure what they want to do with their lives.

Hell, I can’t even legally drink in most parts of the world LOL! I am only 19 years old!

I am not complaining, but being a professional travel blogger is not for everyone, and not for everyone who thinks they could handle it.

Before you consider of going down this step, you need to decide if you’re cut out for this career because it’s not all sparkly rainbows and unicorns.

You will work harder than you ever have in your entire life.

When you’re a travel blogger, the work is never ever done. There is always something else that you could be doing, but there just aren’t enough hours in the day.
