Backpacking Pokhara

Backpacking Pokhara

After the amazing time couchsurfing (for the first time, which was so fabulous) and volunteering for 2 weeks in Kathmandu, I made my way back to the hostel; where I met other travellers and spent 2 days chilling and exploring Kathmandu before realizing that I should visit Pokhara.

Bye Kathmandu see you again in a couple of weeks? Pokhara here I come ?#everydayIsAnAdventure

As I made my way to Pokhara it was a complete culture change as compared to Kathmandu as the lakeside ie the touristy part of Pokhara felt like walking on an european street with restaurants and coffee shops every few minutes. I arrived just as the sun was setting and being the careless person I am, I didn’t bother to download or save the map.

Spent the night in a random guesthouse as all I wanted to do was sleep. The next morning I made my way to the only hostel in Pokhara, Kiwi Hostel. I met a lot of travellers and spent the next few days exploring the city and the beautiful lake, and the temples while all along listening to other people talk about the treks they’ve done.

Sometimes you have to stop thinking so much and just go where your heart takes you ❤ #everydayIsAnAdventure

Eventually the stories got too tempting to resist and the next day I made my way to the permit office and got myself the permits for the trek. Bought a map for the trek, rented a pair of hiking poles and I was all set. There I was more off on a trek that was in the top 10 most beautiful trek of the world with no prior experience.

Doing the Annapurna circuit trek for the next 20 ish days starting tomorrow ? woohoo ? the world’s biggest pass at Thorang (5416m) and also the world highest Lake at Tilicho (4919m) #soexcited #everydayIsAnAdventure

I am living out of a backpack for the next couple of years and I believe in

minimalism

and my backpack weighed some 11-12kg.

For the trek, I didn’t leave anything behind for me, I took everything I owned to the world’s biggest pass at 5416m above sea level. Having everything I owned with me, on my shoulders though tough climbs, helped me make the tough decisions, and at the end of the trek my bag was 2-2.5kg lighter(extra clothes were given to people in need etc).

The 15 day trek wasn’t just a physical journey for me. It was a mental challenge. I suffered from severe asthma as a kid and always had shitty stamina, terrible lung capacity and all my life I was always told the things that I

couldn’t

do instead of the thing’s I

could.

Here I was at 18 years old travelling the world full-time while working and I wouldn’t be here if I listened to the people who said that I couldn’t. I didn’t plan on letting my past dictate my present and the pass and trek was insanely hard due to the strain of reduced oxygen on my weak lungs but that didn’t stop me. Don’t ever let your past dictate your future, you create your future.
