How Dangerous Is The World

How Dangerous Is The World

With the negativity of mass media, we sometimes fail to understand that

we live in the safest times in human history!

No, I’m not talking about this in the hippie sense of

“Yay! We should all love each other and sing and dance around a fire”

, that’s super fun, but realistically if you check the facts

*the real facts, not the alternative ones*

you will find out that

through our entire time on this planet it has never been more peaceful.

Why then do we believe that the world is a mess and that our species is going to be annihilated any moment? One reason is the media!

What makes you click on an article faster, the title “You are safe, don’t worry!” or “Man killed by a shark while surfing!”

Funny reality is that the odds of getting attacked and killed by a shark are

1 in 3,748,067

. In a lifetime, you are more likely to die from fireworks (

1 in 340,733

), lightning (

1 in 79,746

), drowning (1 in 1,134), a car accident (1 in 84), stroke (1 in 24), or heart disease (1 in 5).

You should be more worried about that donut in your hand instead of sharks or terrorism!

Negative news is so easy to market as it plays right into your emotions. That’s why an article like this will never make ‘breaking news’. If you turn on the news right now all you see is negative news!

Politicians always tend to use those emotions to their advantage, that’s not surprising, just like I named this article

“How Dangerous Is The World?”

instead of

“We are the Luckiest Generation”

which was the original title or

“How Safe Is The World?”

because

this title will make more people click through

, the same way politicians play into the negativity of the media to get more of your votes.

The reality is the world is safer than most people think. We are led to believe that strangers are dangerous, but the truth is that

most people will rather help you than hurt you.

Every person you love once started out as a stranger. We can learn so much from strangers.

Fear is powerful! It’s a truly powerful emotion, but fear is usually irrational. (I have an irrational fear of heights, snakes and a couple of other things) Whenever you are afraid, ask yourself what’s the worst that can happen?

Want to quit your job and travel the world or start that new venture?

What’s the worst that can happen?

Well, you come back broke and you have to go back to your job! That’s the worst! What’s the best?

Your life could be completely changed, you get a broader view of the world, you learn amazing new skills, you fall in love, you live your passion

…. the possibilities are endless. Isn’t that worth the risk?

But what do most people think,

“I’m going to be homeless and begging on the street! My friends and family leave me and don’t talk to me anymore! I will die of hunger!”

Are you telling me that you are so incompetent that you can’t get your job back? Or that you can’t get a new one?

You won the lottery of the universe, you are a human being on earth.

The odds of you being alive are 1 in 400 quadrillion that’s 4 with 17 Zeros after it, and

you’re telling me that you’re just going to spend your entire life in fear and complain about shit till you die?

You realize that you are going to die someday, right? You’re going to be 90 years old someday, looking back on life and what?

Are you going to be so happy that you spent time gossiping about your neighbors or that you fulfilled your dreams and made a difference in other people’s lives?!

We have all have goals in our lives, whether it’s raising your kids to be responsible adults, sailing across the seven seas or building the next Facebook.

Find out what you want out of this amazing gift we have call life, reverse engineer it and work towards it.

Speaking about jobs let’s talk about opportunities. I’m going to make a claim now that’s going to piss off a couple of people.

It’s never been easier to make money.

We live in a time when you have the whole world of information at your fingertips, you can learn an infinite amount of skills for free.

A time when PewDiePie can make $12m in a year, filming himself and uploading his videos to YouTube. Do you think your parents could do that? This “internet” thing has created more opportunities than you could ever imagine possible.

“But Jeremy those people are lucky!”

Luck is the last dying wish of those that believe that success can happen by accident, sweat and hard work is for those that know it’s a choice.

Work smart and then hard! It’s never been easier to make living doing what you love. Before I dropped out of college I remember how the biggest goal of people around me was to “pass and get a good job” Seriously?! you plan on spending 4 years of your life, for a piece of paper, just for a “good job”. What is wrong with you? You have the infinite human potential in you and you are just going to waste it at a “good job”.

Human potential is the most powerful thing!

“The graveyard is the richest place on earth, because it is here that you will find all the hopes and dreams that were never fulfilled, the books that were never written, the songs that were never sung, the inventions that were never shared, the cures that were never discovered, all because someone was too afraid to take that first step, keep with the problem, or determined to carry our their dream.” – Les Brown

A year ago when I decided that I want to travel the world, I learned the skills necessary to do that for free online and now after traveling for nearly a year, traveling the world for a living is normal from my perspective. My parents sometimes still don’t understand how I make money! Like I said, it has never been easier to do what you love!

I once had a week when my bank balance was negative and I had only 20$ in my pocket, I was broke and it was entirely my fault, I could give up and go back to college and under my parents support but I wouldn’t be where I am in my life if I wasn’t ready to delay gratification.

There are people in some parts of the world who aren’t sure if they will have food to eat tomorrow, unsure if bombs will fall on their houses, they have the right to complain! You on the other hand, if you are reading this, that means you have enough time to waste it browsing the internet and probably found this article through Facebook or something.

I feel no sympathy if you complain. You have opportunities right in front of you and you are just going to let them pass giving some excuse. There are people who pray for the comforts that you take for granted.
